“My Birth story
Rose – 25.06.20
Becoming a mum has always been something I hoped would happen to me but having spent years listening to negative birth stories I was always worried and anxious about the process in getting there. I saw labour and child birth as a traumatic event that I would have to go through in order to fulfil my dream of having my own child.
I knew early on in my pregnancy that I wanted to try hypnobirthing. I thought that it would help answer some of my concerns and questions whilst also helping me prepare for what was to come.
I’d heard about Rachel at Lionheart Hypnobirthing so decided to have a look at her website. I thought it would be good for me and my husband to attend and once one of my close friend completed the course and spoke so highly of it, I knew it was the right choice for me.
The classes were informal, lighthearted but packed with all the information and tools I would need to aspire for the labour and birth I wanted. I started to feel excited about my upcoming labour and birth, something I never thought I would feel. The course also helped my husband to understand the birth I wanted and how to support me in achieving this.
Once Covid-19 became a concern I started to work from home which gave me the opportunity to focus even more on myself and my pregnancy. I covered the house in birth affirmations and read over my Lionheart notes on a regular basis to help keep me calm and focused on what was to come whilst progressing with my pregnancy through lockdown.
Having been diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes early on in my pregnancy, I worried about having to be induced but with the encouragement from Rachel and my Yoga teacher I felt confident to make the right decisions for me and my baby. I had high blood pressure at 40weeks so agreed to be induced at 40+3. Having to say goodbye to my husband at the ward entrance was the hardest thing I had dealt with so far but I tried to stay calm in the knowledge that we would be meeting our baby soon. As soon as the induction process began I started with contractions straight away. I laboured on the the ward alone for only 5 hours with nothing but my yoga mat, exercise ball, hypnobirthing notes and my breathing before being rushed to delivery suite where I was finally reunited with my husband. 3 contractions later our beautiful daughter Rose was born with only a few puffs of gas and air.
Having spent 9 months loving being pregnant, being in total awe of what my body was doing and feeling so supported and ready for labour, nothing could quite prepare me for how I would feel birthing my baby. It was the most empowering and amazing experience of my life. I have never felt so strong, confident and prepared.
Rachel, thank you for playing such a huge part in my pregnancy and labour journey. Your knowledge and teachings had such a positive effect on me which I know contributed to me having the most positive experience despite being in the mist of a global pandemic.
Please never stop empowering women like me and spreading the joy of child birth.
